Our approach to accessibility

At the core of our work is the principle that digital services must be built in a way that does not create barriers to disabled people who want to use them. Our own digital services, including this website, are no exception.

When we update this website, we make sure it does not include content that creates barriers for disabled users. We do this using a combination of manual assessment and automation. In accordance with our policy on artificial intelligence, we do not use any automated tools incorporating large language models, only tools where we can examine the code and understand exactly how they work.

We require content on this website to meet, without exception, the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.2 at AA level. We also meet AAA criteria where possible and test issues not covered by the standards that we know affect some disabled people.

However, this cannot guarantee that no one will experience a barrier when using this website. Human error may cause issues to be missed in our assessment, or barriers may exist that are not covered by technical standards or included in routine testing.
