Built Without Barriers

Develop your team’s skills

Accessibility should be part of everyday work for the whole team. Develop the skills internally to make this a natural, ingrained part of your team culture.

Our approach

  • Different approaches for different roles

Within one team you'll usually have different people doing different types of work. We get everyone up to speed on disability and accessibility, but we tailor our approach to the job role, technology and legal requirements.

  • Asynchronous by default

Skills fade - nobody wants to be trying to remember what they learned on a one-day course two years ago. We produce material teams can refer to every day, with no need to save questions for later.

  • Human guidance and support available

At every stage and at all levels, we incorporate human guidance, Q&A and hands-on support into our training services. Meaningful interaction, focused on your particular service, helps new learning stick.

An introduction suitable for the whole team

Accessibility training often focuses on software developers while overlooking product owners, leaders and sometimes even designers. Accessibility is everyone's responsibility, so everyone should get the same baseline knowledge of the key issues affecting disabled customers, how disabled people use services like yours and the legal requirements for your particular service and sector.

Our introductory training is suitable for the whole team. The content is available as video (with captions and audio description) and text. It covers these topics briefly and provides ample further reading for anyone who is interested.

Introductory training can be delivered through our own platform, or integrated into your existing systems as a SCORM package.

Role-specific technical knowledge for those who need it

For designers, developers and testers, having a good working knowledge of accessibility saves time later. Potential barriers to disabled customers can be spotted at the earliest stage, before a single line of code is written.

Our technical reference material is ready for learners to pull up whenever they're designing, coding or testing something new. Teams can be confident of what is required, how to test their own work and exactly what they need to do to build a product that works for disabled customers from day one.

Reference material is available for designers, developers and testers working on web services.

Hands-on support for the challenging questions

Our training services are designed to help your team excel at addressing the type of accessibility issues they encounter in their daily work. It's natural, however, that they will encounter new, challenging questions. Accessibility professionals exist because it's unrealistic to expect every developer to reach a deep understanding of a complex and nuanced field alongside their existing tasks.

Training services include flexible time with an accessibility specialist for your team to use when they want to do some paired testing, review a design or get feedback.

This type of support is usually delivered individually or with a small group at short notice - there's no need to organize a big workshop.

Need something different?

Our approach to training is based on years of experience guiding teams of all sizes through understanding the needs of disabled people and creating web and mobile applications. We aim to create high-quality reference material for technical professionals and provide support when it is needed.

Every team is different. If you think a different approach would better suit your team, let's talk. Our team combines software engineering skills, lived experience of disability and a deep knowledge of the technical standards. We can find a custom solution for anyone, at any skill level, looking to learn more about disability and accessibility.
